FAQs
At Rock Harbor School, we offer a range of K-12 programs designed to support students in both traditional and homeschool settings. Each program provides flexibility, community, and high-quality instruction rooted in academic excellence and biblical integration.
Please see the Programs pages for complete details.
Our classes are intentionally small, with a maximum ratio of 12:1. This allows for individualized attention, deeper learning, and a supportive classroom environment. We also pull smaller groups within classes to instruct on specific levels or skills.
The school employs a mastery-based approach, focusing on equipping students with a solid academic foundation tailored to their individual levels rather than strictly adhering to grade levels. Additionally, Rock Harbor integrates Biblical principles, life skills, and cognitive-enhancing activities into its curriculum to support whole-child development.
Please see the About Us page for complete details.
Tuition varies by the program and is available upon request. Prospective families are encouraged to contact the school directly for information regarding tuition assistance and any available discounts or scholarships. We aim to make Christian education accessible and offer limited financial aid and tuition assistance based on family need.
Please see the Contact Us page to submit an inquiry form.
Because we operate in a quiet residential neighborhood, we take extra care in getting to know prospective families before sharing detailed enrollment materials or our location.
To begin the enrollment process, we ask that you fill out our brief Inquiry Form. This lets us know how you heard about us and what you’re looking for in a school. Once we receive your form, we’ll follow up by email with next steps— sending our Information and Application Packet and inviting you to a short phone call or a scheduled tour.
We value personal connection, even in a digital age, and look forward to learning more about your family!

While Rock Harbor School does not offer a formal special education program, our small class sizes, our cognitive curriculum, and personalized approach allow us to support a wide range of learners—including gifted and neurodivergent students.
Each child receives individualized instruction in core subjects like math and language arts, giving them the space to grow at their own pace and according to their unique strengths and challenges.
As we grow, we are also beginning to partner with specialists who can provide additional support and guidance to both our staff and students.
If you have questions about whether Rock Harbor is a good fit for your child’s specific needs, we’d be happy to talk with you directly and explore the possibilities together.
Our days are designed to balance focused academics, creative exploration, and meaningful community.
The school day begins at 8:15 AM when doors open and students settle in with morning warm-ups. By 8:30 AM, the formal school day starts. School ends at 3:00 PM, with dismissal between 3:05 and 3:15.
With the same starting time, Fridays follow a half-day schedule. Friday dismissal is at 12:00 PM, with pickup from 12:05 to 12:15.
At Rock Harbor, families are truly part of the culture we’re building. Communication is strong, and parents are regularly in the loop about what students are learning—both in school and at home.
Please see the Class Schedule page for complete details.
In addition to core academics, we offer electives such as art, music/choir/guitar, physical education, theater, robotics, and life skills. As we grow, we plan to expand offerings based on student interests and community resources.
Please see the Electives Offered page for complete details.
Rock Harbor School is not currently accredited by a traditional accrediting agency. While we recognize that accreditation can serve an important role in education, especially in terms of accountability and recognition, many agencies are not designed with micro schools or innovative models like ours in mind. We are pioneering a mastery-based, individualized approach that doesn’t fit neatly into standardized frameworks—by design. Our model allows us to tailor instruction to each child’s unique strengths, challenges, and pace, without being constrained by one-size-fits-all requirements or prescribed curricula.
That said, we remain committed to academic excellence and continuous improvement. We are also actively exploring future partnerships with organizations and accreditation bodies that support educational innovation without compromising our mission, flexibility, or biblical foundation.
Our goal is to prepare students not only for college or career, but for life—with wisdom, character, and the skills needed to thrive. Whether accredited or not, we hold ourselves to high standards of educational and spiritual integrity.
We use a blend of Christian-based and academically rigorous curriculum, including resources from publishers like Bob Jones University, Shurley English, All About Learning Press, Demme Learning, and others. Curriculum choices support our mastery-based, biblical approach to learning.
Please see the Learning pages for complete details.
At Rock Harbor School, we believe that student growth is more than just a number. While we do provide grades—especially for reporting to other schools or future educational transitions—we do not rely solely on traditional report cards.
Instead, we use a more holistic approach to assessment that includes:
- Student portfolios with pre- and post-assessments, work samples, IXL reports, and projects that show true progress over time
- Narrative evaluations that reflect growth in academics, interpersonal
relationships, life skills, and character development - End-of-year reports that give families a full picture of how their child is developing, both academically and personally.
We understand that numerical grades can be useful, but they often reflect subjective values (e.g., a teacher prioritizing tests vs. projects vs. homework). Our goal is to assess the whole child, not just their performance in one area. This approach continues to grow and evolve with our school, but at its heart is a commitment to meaningful feedback that truly reflects student learning.
While we do not require uniforms at Rock Harbor School, we do require modesty and respectability in the way students dress. Our clothing can communicate a message to others, and we will address a student whose clothing conveys a negative message or attracts unnecessary attention. Please see our Information Packet for more specific guidelines on dress. Though not required, families may purchase school wear that we make available, and we provide a t-shirt for every student at the beginning of the year.
We understand that every family is different. Some parents drop off and pick up with limited involvement due to busy work schedules—and that’s perfectly okay. Others enjoy volunteering, joining field trips, or contributing in other ways. We welcome both approaches.
While parent involvement isn’t required, we do believe that a strong home school connection supports student success—both academically and personally. That’s why we offer several opportunities for parents to get involved throughout the year, from Parent Nights to special events and committees. This year, we’re also introducing a Tuition Offset Program for families who wish to participate more actively—whether through serving on a committee, helping with events, or regularly attending Parent Nights.
We value partnership with parents, and we’ll meet you where you are.
No, you do not need to be a Christian or attend church to enroll your child at Rock Harbor School. However, because we are a faith-based community rooted in a biblical worldview, we do ask that families have a clear understanding of our school’s Christian foundation and mission.
This includes a friendly willingness to have your child:
- Be exposed to Scripture, worship, prayer, and biblical teaching
throughout the school day - Participate respectfully in discussions and activities related to faith and character formation
- Be part of a community that openly expresses and lives out Christian
beliefs.
At Rock Harbor School, we take a deeply personalized approach to education. Instead of large classes and one-size-fits-all curriculum, we offer a small, connected learning environment where students are known, challenged, and nurtured as whole people.
We focus on mastery-based learning, which means students progress at their own pace—moving ahead when they’ve truly understood a concept, not just when the calendar says it’s time. Our days are structured but flexible, with time for hands-on exploration, focused practice, and meaningful conversation. Rooted in a biblical worldview, we integrate faith and learning in a natural, thoughtful way. We believe education is not just about academics, but also about forming character, cultivating wonder, and equipping children to live wisely and well in the world.
As a micro school in a home-based setting, we intentionally keep things small so we can focus on what matters most: relationships, depth, and joyful learning.
